Flunixin meglumine is a member of the nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAID's) used for pain relief (particularly colic), counteract the effects of trauma, bring down fever, and block the effects of endotoxins on tissue. Frequently used to treat medical colics though care must be exercised as it may prevent early recognition of surgical problems by covering up symptoms. This article is about the contraindications, toxic effects, dosages, and association drug rules that apply to this medication.

Flunixin meglumine has a unique structure and several unique properties when compared to other NSAIDs like bute. It is a very potent inhibitor of cyclooxygenase and like other NSAIDs, it relieves pain, decreases inflammation, and reduces fever. Unlike other NSAIDs it also is effective against pain in the abdomen and has anti-septic shock properties possible through blocking the actions of endotoxin.

Store between 2-30°C (36-86°F) and should not be mixed in the syringe with other drugs. It is recommended that flunixin meglumine not be mixed with other drugs in the syringe because of unknown compatibilities.
