At a recent horse show, one of my studs starting having severe colic symptoms. The vet on call was immediatly called and arrived 45 minutes later. she then injected the stud which i later found out was buscopan and told me in about 30 minutes he should improve. well he didnt so i called my own vet who arrived promptly. he also gave him an injection and the horse showed direct improvement. well, several days later my stud devolped a severe painful lump on the side of his neck, the injection site of the first vets injection. after putting 2 and 2 together we realized that she injected Buscopan IM instead of IV which is what it is intended for. My stud now 2 weeks after the fact is in severe pain, can hardly move his neck let alone walk a straight line. my vet is very worried and basically has told me i can forget the rest of the show season. i have contacted the university and their advice is to use cold compress therapy. does anyone have any better suggestions?

I do not use buscopan so I went searching for information on injection Peter. Oral phenylbutazone should be helpful is relieving pain. The question is will this abscess or go down without abscessing. Early identification of abscessation with ultrasound and drainage would return your horse to use quicker.
