Has anyone out there tried with any luck the relatively new product for arthritis Recovery EQ?I have a 23yr old gelding with low ringbone in the mild stage of degeneration but lameness is still present because of pain tolerance. joint injections help, but there is still some lameness. My horse has had shoeing adjustments, shockwave therapy, stall rest and the list goes on and on. bute is out because he also has ulsers. I'm considering as a last effort adequan or legend. if anyone has anything to add or suggest it would be greatly appreciated

If it's made Biomedia Labs, Horse Journal gave it good reviews. I tried EquuSea on my 16 year old and am thrilled with the results. EquuSea was reviewed in HJ at the same time as Recovery. You should check out the October 2003 Horse Journal article if you haven't already.

Good luck.

All I can tell you is my vet is totally sold on Adequan for horses with arthritis- she feels as opposed to legend- which gives more of a jump start in relief-a lot of people seem to use Legend before a show-but then after their horses are back to the pain they had before. I have heard is more short term pain relief- while the Adequan is better for chronic pain-but you have to do a loading dose- which is every four days for a month- than once a month-the loading dose is over 850.00-then the once a month shot ran me about 65.00 each- so it is very expensive. My vet has two horses on it and two horses not-but she said one horse-without it- just can't move- with it- is bucking and running around like a young horse again. I started it as a preventative- but I decided to stop- as I just couldn't find any good evidence that as a preventive it is effective- and with two young (8 yr old) with no evidence of arthritis.. it was just too expensive. It is IM- so easily administered-I also have a gal at my barn using recovery- I will ask her to post her thoughts- as she is a member here... but her horse has other issues- so is still very lame.

Whoops- the 850.00 was for two horses- for one horse the loading dose would be half of that..

I had used Adequan for a few years, sort of helped, switched to the generic Adequan, less help (I thought). Then I tried Corta-flx HA and, wow, big difference! I have a friend using Conquer and she is also amazed. She saw a great improvement in her horse. She had quit the generic Adaquan about a month before starting the Conquer. Might be worth a shot for a month. I am sold!
