At a recent seminar, one of the vets mentioned she gave her performance horse weekly im injections of chondroitin (I can't remember if there was a glucosamine component, too) and she felt it really helped the horse. I seem to recall she purchased it in a vial and it worked out to about $10 a shot. She also said she'd use it or discontinue it based on the horse's work/show schedule. I should have asked her at the time, but the opportunity is lost. Can you shed any light on what this may be and if it is a reasonable practice to try? Cheers. |

Hello Chris, It sounds to me like generic glucosamine which is in the chondroitin family. If I was going to supplement a sound horse I would stay with the oral products due to lack of objective proof of benefit as a preventive. It is logical that both these may be of benefit. DrO |
