Posted on Saturday, Jan 1, 2005 - 12:53 pm: My vet tells me that there is a new overseas drug that hasn't been approved here yet by the name of Telegin (not quite sure if that is the correct name or spelling. He tells me it is similar to drugs that are being used on humans for osteoperosis. Has anyone heard of it? |

It was discovered due to the human condition known as Paget's Disease and the feeling is that navicular and other conditions where the bone loses it's density would derive benefits from the same type of treatment. I researched it for my horse a few years ago and the FDA has not yet approved it for use here (politics from what I understand). I contacted the Pharmaceutical company that makes it and they told me I could fly to France and get it from a vet there but would have to find a vet here to administer it (a problem at the time for me - not the trip to France but the vet willing to do it). Last week, I got an email from the pharmaceutical company telling me the following (I will be happy to forward the email to you if you would like): Dear Madam, You contacted us some time ago to enquire on the availability of our product Tildren for the US. As I mentioned in my previous answer, Tildren is not registered in your country. There is nevertheless a possibility for you to obtain from the Center for Veterinary Medicine a special permission to import the product overseas. If you are a vet, and if you would like to proceed through this route, I would recommend that you contact Manor Veterinary Exports, who will be able to provide you with guidance in the process of obtaining the letter of approval and can arrange the supply of this product under this requirement. The contact information is" Dr. John Gripper Manor Veterinary Exports Email: johngrippervet@compuserve.com Phone: 011-44-1-993-83-0278 Fax: 011-44-1-993-83-0395 Address: Manor Farm, Ascott-under-Wychwood, Oxfordshire OX7 6 AL, United Kingdon Apparently, one can get special permission to treat with Tildren by filling out an FDA form stating necessity and then contact the Vet in England mentioned above to import the medication into the U.S. However, you would still have to find a vet who knows how to administer it (I think it is via IV drip over a 10 day period or something like that - not sure). I have yet to find someone but if you happen to find someone in your search who is willing.... let me know since I am interested in trying this medication on my horse. The name of the pharmaceutical company that makes the drug is Ceva Sante Animale located in France and their website is www.ceva.com Claudia |
