I had to take stitches out of our gelding who cut his knee up. Knowing he's a tough horse to get drunk, I upped the vet's recommendation by 2 cc's of rompum and 2 cc's of ace. He's a bad horse so it had to be IM. This initial dose was 15 cc's of Rompum and 5 cc's of ace. He's a 1300 lb horse. Waited 20 minutes and he looked dopey until we tried to do something with him. Added 4 cc's IV. Was somewhat manageable for five minutes then was back to the way he was. Added another 4 cc's IV and he was still bad, but we were able to finish. All told, he had 23 cc's of Rompum and 5 cc's of ace.

Quite a high dose Rodney but it is not surprising it did not harm your horse. Next time talk to your vet about using a detomidine/torbugesic cocktail, it is far more reliable than xylazine/ace for really bad actors.
