Hello there Dr. O and all, my horse had his first treatment of tildren three weeks ago and while it didn't help his lameness (at all) I did notice a frequency of urination after treatment. I just started him on Previcox three days ago (he is going sound now) but I'm concerned about kidney problems arising after reading the posts on previcox. Should I withhold Previcox and use bute until some time after his second treatment of tildren? Or do you think his frequency of urination is a fluke?
Thanking you in advance,
Andrea

Hello Andrea,
Phenylbutazone would probably not be less nephrotoxic than firocoxib. However the incidence of kidney failure with the appropriate use of either of these drugs is very very small. Whether you should continue the NSAID therapy or not would be best decided by your veterinarian.
