Dr. O could you tell me what this is for please? I read on a different thread here that the best thing for treating COPD is make sure there is a good enviroment. What do you do when it's the weather causing hard times? We've been having some very hot and muggy days lately and my horse is having a hard time with COPD.

Hello Misty, This was a discussion we were having just in the last few days pointing out that it is not the weather causing the lung problems but but something that happens when it is hot and humid or even possibly the horse trying to stay cooler exacerbates the symptoms for more on this see, Equine Diseases » Lameness » Diseases of the Hoof » Founder & Laminitis » Founder & Laminitis an Overview » Discussion on Founder/dex or was it the hay. About half way down a new discussion starts.. For proper environmental control recommendations for the usual form of COPD see Equine Diseases » Respiratory System » Heaves & Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease. Unfortunately the only proper environmental control for the Summer Pasture form is moving the horse, for more on this see Equine Diseases » Respiratory System » Heaves & Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease. It should be noted that many horses with the SPACOPD form also have the regular form. Aminophylline is a bronchodilator that has low to moderate activity in the horse. In one study only half the COPD horses treated showed a improvement following use and in my experience that improvement is hard to see. For more effective pharmacological treatment for COPD see the article referenced above. DrO
