Dr. O.,

Have you used cimetidine for treatment of melanoma? I've read your article which mentions that it is an unapproved use, but it doesn't explain what the cimetidine actually DOES to inhibit melanoma return or growth.

Thank you.

Yes I use it in any progressive case and my results are written in the article Equine Diseases » Skin Diseases » Bumps / Nodules / Warts / Tumors » Melanomas.

The rationale of its use in melanomas comes from human clinical observations and research. In the article referenced above see the Scientific Report: In vitro effect of histamine and histamine H1 and H2 receptor antagonists on cellular proliferation of human malignant melanoma cell lines.

Hi, Dr. O.,
Demetrius has been getting 1 gm. Cimetidine twice a day for the treatment of his melanomas. The barn wants to give supplements only once a day. Will it be just as effective and is it safe to give the 2 gm. Cimetidine at just one feeding?
Thank you.

P.S. I am on Holly's Computer and it's rather slow so couldn't get to the article to post under another topic. Hope you don't mind this one time. Thanks!

Corinne,

I had a similar situation; barn only supplemented once a day and I wanted twice a day. I was able to find a barn "regular" (in my case a working student) who was willing to do the extra feeding for $1 / day.

Since the barn mgt wasn't willing to provide the service I needed, they were OK with letting the student earn a little cash.

Good Luck,

Chris

Thanks! Yes Dr O I am aware that it's still only in certain studies where it has shown some decreasing of human cancer cell line proliferation (in lab conditions) but we decided with the vet at the surgical hospital to give it a try and see what develops as this will be a life long diagnosis and is not harmful.
I will keep my case documented back under the original post so at least you might have some more anecdotal information on it's use. We just started him on within the last six months. So far no new melanomas that can be seen and no increase in size in the existing ones but time shall tell.
