Hi, Dr. O! My vet has prescribed oral Tetracycline (Tetracycline HCL) for my horse, who a week or so ago showed symptoms of Anaplasmosis and whose titer for that and Lyme is positive. But most of the references I have found indicate a) low bioavailability and b) risk of diarrhea due to low GI absorption (apparently what makes it in is eliminated in urine). Most references also recommend Doxy as being the right oral antibiotic due to higher absorption and excretion in an inactive form through the feces, but don't say anything about what doesn't get absorbed and has to travel through the digestion. Can you tell me your preference and the reasoning for it? Thanks! - Mark

My Vet prescribed 10 days of Doxy for Anaplasmosis and it worked great.
