Some how I am not surprised I could not find anything on this. I am giving my horse these three drugs in the hopes of improving an elusive problem in his hind end. He is pastured with other horses and it makes it hard to give him supplements and keep the other horses from fighting over it. Anyway . . . I make some horse cookies that are mostly ground flax for another horse that gets summer itch. I thought it would be so much easier to give him his medicine in cookies but I am not sure how the drugs would hold up to 300 F. Is there any information or links that would help me determine if I can do this without degrading the supplements effectiveness.

CHONDROITIN IS DEGRADED/ GLUCOSAMINE NOT AS MUCH AND MSM OK/ OTHER FACTORS HOW LONG AT 300 HOW MUCH WATER IN COOKIES/ THE HORSE WILL GET SOME MEDICINE BUT NOT ALL. THE PROOF IS IN THE PUDDING COOK THEM UP AND SEE HOW THE HORSE DOES OVER A MONTH PERIOD AND GET BACK TO US

Thanks ! Sounds worth trying. I will cut down on the water I use in the mix and that might reduce the baking time.

Shelley,
I've used a pice of bread with honey to put the chondrotoin and glucosamine on. All the horses got a piece of bread I just had to take care the right horse got the medicated bread.
Perhaps it would work for you it seems less work than baking cookies.

Shelly - There are a couple of "treat" products out there that really are joint supplements in disguise: Synovi G4, NutriBites by Horses Prefer, and Rounders EZ-Go. The ingredients may not be quite as concentrated in some of these products, but they're easy and cost is relative to powdered products. My mare loves them all (and me for the treats!), and it's convenient.

Shelly,
Glad to be helpful. One other product I couldn't remember yesterday is called "Osteocare Glucosamine Treats" by Star Horse Products. They're apple/molasses flavor. They also contain HA & Chondroitin - try valleyvet.com to buy them. I haven't seen them in feed stores here in CA. This is the product I thought of using because of the HA. Good luck!

www.smartpakequine.com has a great comparison chart on joint supplements. I found it right after I read Dr.O's article on joint supplementation. The chart includes the amount of each ingredient in milligrams and the cost per day among other things. One of the lowest priced items is "Majesty's Flex Wafers" at .60/day. They have the amount of each ingredient in the right ratio according to Dr. O's article. I just ordered a bag.

Val: Thanks for that info. Please let us know how these cookies work out. Are you currently feeding a like supplement or is this a new dietary additive? I'd be very curious about your results. Thanks, JO
