I have a 4yr qh gelding who is to be on a rotation of panacur, benzelmin, and anthelcide. This horse had colic surgery(no resection) in October(the day I bought him) due to tapeworms. He was tube wormed in March and the vet wants him on this rotation until he is tubed in the fall. He is doing great but I can't find benzelmin. I ordered it before online but now the site doesn't carry it. They say it has been discontinued by the manufacturer. Anyone know where I can find it?
Thanks,
Chris

Benzelmin and Anthelcide are the same active ingredient, so I don't know why you would necessarily need to use two different brand names. And what about the resistance problems with that family of dewormers? Has he recommended having fecal egg counts done to make sure that these products are effective?
But if you need benzelmin, just do a google search. I found several sites that are advertising it.

Chris, this is a poor worming routine for the reasons given by Cynthia and others, see Deworming Overview for more so you can discuss the legitimate concerns of using a program that centers around benzimadazole class dewormers. We suggest you use the one we have in our Deworming Schedule which is very effective.

I was only going by what the vet recommended. I just moved to this barn in October with our other horse, Romeo who I retired from jumping and this new horse after I picked him up from Ohio State Vet Hospital. The vet there said to follow the vet who would be his primary care giver. I don't want to make waves. It is very difficult to find a good trainer in our area and this trainer is very good. Also the vet which comes to the barn has an excellent reputation. I will read the deforming article and try to be better informed. I "googled" equine dewormers, not Benzelmin. I didn't even think about it.
Thanks for the info Cynthia and Dr.O
