Near to our yard there is a field with a 14hh native type stallion in it. Although has 2 clydesdale mares with him he is contantly escaping and has, to my knowledge, mated with three local mares. Since our mare already had an unexpected foal last year and finances are stretched beyond breaking point already, if he caught our mare it would be a major disaster. The owner just says (so I am told) that he is just 'full of life' and he still keeps getting out. Can you do anything to prevent a mare being caught, or to stop the pregancy taking hold?

What you are dreading happened at the livery stable where I used to have my horse (though not to her...) and yes, there is an injection the vets can give. I'm sure Dr O will provide chapter and verse.

Clair,
What part of the world do your live? This man
seems to be begging on "loosing the farm" to a
lawsuit for haveing a poorly contained stallion.
Here is Washington state the RCW's state that
fences must be no less than 6 foot high and ANY
breeding activities must be done so that they are
not in the view of those off of the property
(behind closed doors). God forbid that horse hurt
someone when he is "full of life"....
