I had an interesting circumstance that illustrates what Dr. O has often stated about the hazards of assuming cause and effect with treatments.

A friend has a very confirmed headshaker. Years of whatever current medical and environmental treatments have had very limited success. She found a web site that said continued vaccinations are a contributor (You vaccinate every year. Headshaking gets worse every year. Vaccinations = headshaking. Of course, this would apply equally to horses that don't headshake, right?)

Anyway her vet said, since they'd tried everything else, he couldn't see any harm (except the $100/month) in trying the no-vaccination route. There's also an herbal/homeopathic treatment, which she ordered.

She was going to start it at the first of the month, but the shipment was delayed. But -- guess what? Her horse started getting much better! Nothing in his treatment or environment had changed.

But, if she had started the herbs as she planned, she would have been totally convinced that she'd found the right answer -- finally.

As it is, she's just happy that her horse -- for whatever reason -- is more comfortable for the time being.

Thanks for posting Jerre, I am notorious for trying to find that supplement for my horse that will help him... patience is something that eludes me to this day. Poor Dr. O has had to remind me often...
