Dr. O, I might be inheriting a lovely senior school master who has been on a 'maintenance dose' of isoxuprine for about 5 years. The owner says that the horse started on it on the advice of a chiropractor, and has been on it ever since. When the owner runs out of the drug (and it has happened for up to 6 weeks), she has not noticed any difference in the horse's performance... but because the horse has not been lame in 5 years, she is superstitious and is afraid to take him off the drug completely. Would there be any need to wean the horse off the drug or can I just stop? How long will it take before the drug clears out completely? (Don't worry - I will be bringing the horse to a foot/lameness specialist for a good set of radiographs and a little advice.) Thanks in advance... |

Dr. O It turns out he is on 5ml every second day - liquid form. How does that compare to your 5 tablets? thanks again... |
