I am a 6 horse closed heard on about 13 acres. I feel the first program listed (double dose strongid yearly and annual rotation of quest and zimectrin) would be a good program. One question: On the "quest year" do you still use ivermectrin for bots or is the quest sufficient? In other words is it a "pure" annual rotation?

Though ivermectin makes a big deal of being better for bots in their ads, there is still some controversy over this and at worst Quest remains fairly efficacous against bots. Also consider: if you are like here your big bot season is late summer to early fall and so following each bot season you have an ivermectin in Nov or Jan depending on which year it is.

We used Quest twice a year for bots while giving the Daily Strongid. In February we stopped the Daily and so far this year have given two Quest doses. Last week we discovered bots eggs on their legs. Would our best bet in the bot battle be to give an ivermectrin paste right away? Wait until the next wormer time on the Quest schedule but give ivermectrin instead? Thanks for the advice.

I think you will be fine if you just follow the program. They will be killed once ingested. The ivermectin will not treat the eggs on the legs. If these worry you badly I would get a bot comb and remove them manually. I know you have asked about seeing bot eggs on light haired horses and other than using a good light I do not know of anything that makes them more visible. I have to admit, I do not have a problem seeing them on light haired horses: they are lighter than sorrell but darker than white.
