Hi

It depends on a lot of things- are you providing courier service? For example Fed-Ex or a private company? Is there on-farm pickup? What kind of container are you using? I charge a flat fee for collection and packaging which is $30.00 CDN per mare per collection. This is for my time in the breeding shed and lab, and the use of extender, microscope etc. If I use an Equine Express Pak II(insulated with ice pack) box the cost of these boxes for me are $42.00 CDN so I charge that as well unless it is exchanged on that day with another or it is sent back to me in a reasonable amount of time. There are also Equi-Paks which are insulated boxes ideally for semen to be stored and inseminated within 5 hours or so. I like to inseminate these within three hours. They are approximately 10.00 CDN. Most clients pick up the semen at the farm or I send it to another farm to be picked up. I would charge for the time it took me to do this-say 40.00(for 1 hour drive each way) If Fed-Ex would be sending the boxes, it would be for next day delivery and I would have the customer set up an account with Fed Ex so that they could be billed directly for receiving the box. If you have high volume shipping this would be the best way in my opinion. Either Fed-Ex picks up the boxes at your farm or you drop it off at one of their depots. Some high volume farms request a VISA number at time of booking so that the collection/courier fees are billed instantly to your credit card.

It is all fairly similar in terms of cost with the farms I deal with so you might benefit asking around with people who are in the industry as well.

Hello Mandy,
I am afraid there are so many variables to make your question unanswerable. If you are asking for the actual cost of "shipping the semen" it will depend on how it is shipped, the distance it is traveling, and what type container is used. If you are asking what are stallion owners charging for service I have seen everything from 0$ for the first shipment to 250$ per collection and shipment. Best is to contact the stallion owner and ask them directly.
