I have a TB mare who urinates quite frequenly, more so then her couterpart who is due at same time. I am wondering if this is normal or may be a sign of some kind of problem. Anyone with advice or experience with this please share it with me. Thank you for any help with this matter. Toad |

Hello Barbara, Yes, this may be normal or may be a sign of problems. We have an article on increased urination at » Equine Diseases » Urinary System » Excessive Drinking and Urination, Polydipsia / Polyuria (PD/PU). It helps explain how to tell the difference. DrO |

Thank you Dr. O. I went to the articles you suggested and I think I will watch her for 30 mintues and see how many times she urinates. Then I will go from there. Thanks again, Barbara |

It is not just the frequency but the amounts, Barbara. Frequent urination of small amounts has a different set of rule outs than passing a large amount of urine. The fact that she is pregnant complicates the picture as this can cause frequent urination (» Equine Diseases » Urinary System » Dribbling and Uncontrolled Urination ). DrO |
