Hi All,
I don't know if this is the right place but I am [again ] in need of advice: A friend is lending me her gelding who when he stayed here last year made it very clear to me which mare was in heat!
Last year he was in a separate paddock in between the mares and another gelding[who is useless in this respect !] He doesn't have any problems with being alone in between the others.
Should I keep him alone again or will he do his work equally well when being in their pasture?
Anyone with experience on this subject?
Thanks in advance
Jos

The one problem with leaving him in with the mares is that if he is breeding them and there is some communicable infection he may spread it around.

From a teasing stand point I would think it would be better for hard to tease mares, as he can more aggressively tease them. On the other hand you may have to watch more carefully if you are depending on using their behavior in the field as when they are all bunched together he may be harder to tell what's what.

Thanks Dr. O,
Stupid but I completely overlooked the fact he ofcourse will try to mount them if walking in the same paddock.
They are easy to tease so I will put him in the paddock next to them.
