We have had a late winter in The White Mountains of Arizona. I do know that the Weather changes can effect our Partners. My problem is My 3 year old mare is Pregnant for the first time and is due April 19th--21st, 2003. Today, around 1:00pm I found that my Mare was shaking and has horrible diarhea. There has not been a change in diet nor atmosphere. I did bring in two other mares 17 days ago and one already had her baby 12 days ago. Everyone is healthy, no problems what-so-ever. The only thing I could think of doing is to Dry her with a towel (She was somewhat wet from snow, Mare motel is 2/3 cover for each stall 1/3 open with a hay barn attached to break the southerly wind), I Put a blanket on her and gave her 2 Tablespoons of Pepto Bismal. What should I do? Is this a pregnancy thing or should I be concerned about somtething worse? Thank you.

You should immediately call your vet Eileen so that you can learn the significance of this problem, further treatment other than staying warm and dry should await his assessement. To better understand diarrhea in horses see, » Equine Diseases » Colic and GI Diseases » Diarrhea in Horses » Diarrhea an Overview.
