Hey everyone. My question is dealing with my mare how is now 10 months pregnant. She started bagging up about 3 weeks ago, and she started producing a clear liquid about 2 weeks ago. This morning I went to check the liquid, and it was starting to become whitish. So i went and bought a foaling kit and did the test twice, and it is indicating that she is due anytime now. She is sunken in, but that's the only real sign I can see. I know that it is early, but any ideas about anything? I'm not sure if i should trust the test or not, i'm hoping that she doesn't have it yet or it will be premature. This is her first baby. I guess i'm just wondering what everyone thinks?

Hello Prakash,
There really is no way for us to evaluate the accuracy of the test you are using. It does sound like she is bagging up a bit early but perhaps not outside the range of normal. This however is not the same as saying everything is OK.

If in doubt you might want the veterinarian out to check things out. The article Equine Reproduction » Pregnancy, Foaling, & Neonatal Care » Pregnant Mare Care and Nutrition discusses bagging up and problems indicated by abnormal bagging up.

Prakash,
By all means....have your vet check your mare....and do read thru all of DR.O's articles, as he suggested.
I hope as this is your mare's first foal, she'll do the bagging up, bagging down for a while before she gest seriuos about impending birth...uaually a maiden mare won't bag up much at all...so I am worried for you.
One of my mare's aborted twins at 10 months...did you have ultra sounds done when she got pregnant to be sure there were no twins lurking?

Please keep us posted....I really wish the best for you and your mare.
