Last night I checked on my mare who is at 333 days. Her milk hasn't come in yet, but her rear-end has softened and she has dropped alot. My question is: She has a milky white mucousy vaginal discharge . There is enough of it to have gotten all over her tail yesterday. Do horses have the cervical "plug" like humans and is this normal to have this discharge? This is her 6th foal, but my first. Her last foal was born after the kids had her out riding. They came out to the barn in the morning and there was "Lady" and her new baby. She is an old hand, but I am a nervous wreck!

Yes, they do to my knowlege. You usually don't notice it but I have seen one before. It even had some blood in it which freaked me out but the vet said that is what it was. She foaled a couple of days later. Everything was fine. EO

Thanks so much for the response. There did seem to be a little blood on her tail last night. Maybe we can expect the foal this weekend! It would be great if it came over the weekend, but I'm not sure I'll be that lucky.
