I am going to purchase an ultrasound machine for reproduction and ovary/uterus scanning. I need a 5 MHz probe and it does not matter if it is a stand style or portable. What manufacturer and model number do you recommend?

Thank you,
Denise

I use a Classic Medical Model 450 which is about 15 years old and has been through many upgrades. It still gives be very good pictures. I have not seen reviews or side by side comparisions of the models out there right now. However I have found the folks at Classic Medical excellent to deal with and they carry several lines suitable for equine reporductive work. I would contact them give them the features you want and your budget and see what they recommend: http://www.classicmedical.com/ .

Dr O

You might be interested to know our local horse vet also uses an even more ancient machine than yours because he says the modern ones he has looked at do not give such good images. He keeps looking because really their practice, which does a lot of AI, needs 2 machines, one at base and one on the road, but he says he hasn't been convinced of value for money and equivalent image quality as yet.

All the best
