Hi Jos (or any one reading German),
I'm hoping you can help me out in translating my mare's papers (which are in German). I'm filling out show forms and looked at her papers and suddenly, I am unsure of her birth date.

Can you translate the following for me?

Deckdatum
Geburtsdatum
erteilt am

Good old Sparkles might actually be a year younger than I thought she was - which would be wonderful!

thanks!

Deck datum: date when bred
Geburtsdatum : date of birth
erteilt am? in what context? I can't make much of that? Perhaps put in which section of studbook or seen and approved[normally measured and branded to] at: and then the date or in which part of the show do you want to compete?
Hope this helps if not my friend Mille can translate for you she is German

Jos, thanks so very much! You've confirmed that she's 18 instead of 19 years old! A bonus!

The "erteilt am" is under the Holstein symbol and her brand number, but it can't be before she was seen and approved as the date is before her "geburtsdatum" by 3 months....oh wait! Just thought of something: in the US, we typically put the month first , then the day (mm/dd/yyyy), but I think it's the opposite in Europe (dd/xx/yyyy). Is it possible she would have been approved and branded 1 month after she was born?

Except for her age, it really doesn't matter that much to me. But I appreciate your help!

Very well possible even probable. They tried to 'do' all foals as soon as possible to be sure they were with their real mothers. They still do but with the DNA taking they can be seen later.
But in this case it could also be the date of her[paper] registration as a Holsteiner.
Is she happy to loose one year suddenly less wrinkles and cellulite?
Or did she try to get you to feed nice expensive senior feed one year early?

...I'm sure she's happy to lose one year. Certainly I would be THRILLED! Lucky girl must come from good genes because unlike me, she does not look (or act) her age at all.

Many thanks again!
