Hi, My mare foaled 30 hours ago and so far her and baby are doing great, other than I noticed that after having her first bowel movement the new filly has a slight case of diahrrea. It's not real runny, but still am wondering if I should be concerned?

Well Teri,
Diarrhea is a symptom and not a disease and the cause can range from the obscure with little other symptoms to a serious life threatening disease. If there is any question about the significance, something we cannot judge from here, or the foal shows any symptoms of not feeling well you should call your vet right away. By learning to take your foals vital signs you can better judge such events., for more on this
see Equine Reproduction » Pregnancy, Foaling, & Neonatal Care » Care of the Newborn Foal and Mare.

Perhaps describing the character of the diarrhea might allow us to better assess if what you are seeing in within the range of normal.

Well she seems to have dried up, Dr. O, and I'm wondering if the fact that the mare was given double the dose of her vitamins that go into her grain could have caused this? My hubby did the feeding last night and misread the directions on the HorseGuard Vit's that I use and she got 2 scoops instead of one! She seems to be feeling fine and her temp was in the normal range, 100'

No vitamins alone would not cause this.
