Dr. O not sure if this is in here or not, I could not find it... My mare is at a training/breeding barn, will be bringing her home shortly, she is in foal, they put her on SMZ's to treat what they say is cellulitis, its only one hind fetlock the white one.. She has some sores there and is tender.. I don't know if she had a fever or not, but I thought it looked like scratches when I saw it... Anyway they put her on SMZ's to help clear it up as well as treating her with Panalog... I will assume, I hate that word, that antibiotics are safe on a mare in foal.. ? I hate not having my horses home in my care.. On the first day God created horses, on the second day he painted them with SPOTS.. |

For short time, say less than a week there is very little risk. If it is used longer there are potential problems see Equine Medications and Nutriceuticals » Antibiotics and Antimicrobials » Trimethoprim -Sulfa. DrO |

Our 21 year old mare is 4.5 months pregnant and she now has a milky discharge that is quite significant. In the morning there will be 3-5 large areas of a cup or more of this white/yellow substance. The dogs love it but we are concerned for her. Please advise! Paul % Donne Windwalker Farm |

A milky discharge from where Paul? If this is from the vulva you need your vet out to check this immediately. DrO |
