Hello Dr, O

As Chaka went without food for three days during Wilma, she dried up. I read the article about weaning and really Champal is five months old now so I know that it isn't really a bad thing.

Only with Ulemba, her previous foal, he suckled for 18 months and he is such a good, calm horse now, eventhough he is 3 yo and still a stallion, you would not believe, as he is so gentle.

So I was wondering if it is possible that mum will produce milk again?

Thanking you in advance,
Liliana

I will be posting some pics now he is older...

Hello Dr. O

Thank you very much for writing back, Chaka (mum) was a bit under weight and stressed, she seemed out of breath on the Sunday following hurricane Wilma.

But, now she seems fine, her coat is shining again, she is reclaiming her position in the herd (she is the Alfa) as you may remember there really aren't any big animal practices here so my small animal vet saw her and thought she was fine.

Champal (baby in Mayan) her colt keeps suckling and she is not rejecting him any more so I guess we are getting back to normal now.

Thank you again
All the best
Liliana
