My mare and three other mares were left loose with a stallion 3 months ago for one night. My mare and one of the other mares was checked yesterday for pregnancy via palpation, and the vet said my horse was pregnant and was "normal" for 3 months. THe other mare, however, he said was much further along, and he said he would guess that she was 4 and a half months pregnant. He said something about her uterus being completely dropped. There is no way a stallion could have bred her 4 and a half months ago, because they were only in with him for one night, about 3 months ago. I guess what i'm asking is if this is very abnormal? And if anyone has experienced something like this? Thank you! |

I would have the vet do ultrasound on the one that he thinks is 4 months or so, I am not a vet, but I would suspect twins if the uterus is more full than the other mare. |

No not that abnormal Prakash and the placement of the fetus can be quite variable somewhat dependent on the size and number of foals the mare has had, in my opinion. However we cannot rule out Christines suggestion which would be a reasonable explanation of a larger than expected uterus.
