Posted on Wednesday, Nov 20, 2002 - 9:28 am: by normaThank you for creating this site which really allows an owner much greater insights into what is going on within their horse. It really is positive and removes the 'doom and gloom' of not knowing all the treatment routes that are available to make the most sensible decision. PS Oscar was very, very close to being destroyed. I had agreed a mortality value with the Insurer. After discussing with you the accuracy of radiographs in the diagnosis of OCD I decided to go for the arthroscopy to find torn ligaments and full recovery for my 3yo. Without any doubt he owes his life to your web-site as 3 vets gave such a poor prognosis of OCD on the x-rays. Thanks again, Norma |

We all need to be able to access as much information as possible and then make an 'educated' decision about our horses..... Thank you DrO for giving us access to this kind of information. Kathleen |

Posted on Friday, Aug 2, 2002 - 2:57 pm: By Jane Besel (Janieb) on Monday, July 29, 2002 - 10:23 am:Dear Dr. O. and Nancy, Thank you so much for taking the time to respond. After reading your responses, and upon reflection, perhaps I was overreacting to fear generated by listening to too many well-meaning voices. Right now my mules are shiny, alert, and happy. I will take to heart the advice about: keeping in mind a specific goal; measuring their respective girths; cutting back on the alfalfa; and making changes slowly. Again, thank you so much. You have provided me a lifeline. Yours with deepest gratitude, Janie |

Posted on Friday, Aug 2, 2002 - 2:54 pm: By Elizabeth Donahue (Paul303) on Thursday, August 01, 2002 - 12:33 pm:Thank you for your updates. This thread is exactly the type that makes this site so valuable. No one likes to break into an intense thread, but following something like this is a learning experience for us all. I don't think you realize how many people are pulling for you and your mare. |

Posted on Tuesday, May 21, 2002 - 1:58 pm: By CTThanks for the info Dr. O, Didn't realize that adding electrolites would actually make him thirstier. I think that will be beneficial, in that, I know he will drink at each gas fill up (I'll be stopping every two hours or so). I will be sure to carry along electrolite paste and administer some if he does sweat during the ride. In the mean time, my only delinma will be which flavor of gatarade to use... Thanks again. This site is so VERY USEFUL! By BC Thank you very much for the feedback. What makes this forum so valuable is that even when one has done the research, as I did, there are often conflicting opinions or questions to which conclusive answers have not been reached. Such, I guess, is the nature of horses. Having the opportunity to pose some of those questions in a forum like this helps me make an informed decision about what will best suit my particular equine characters. Thank you, thank you, thank you, Brooke |

Posted on Tuesday, May 7, 2002 - 7:56 am: By DDL on Wednesday, May 01, 2002 - 12:06 am:My mare has a big kick mark on her butt with a 5 inch diameter raised hematoma type swelling. I was going to put on DMSO but then just thought I'd let nature heal it. She is also arthritic in her front foot and is getting injected on Friday, (did nerve blocks last Friday). Would topical DMSO be a good addition to our efforts in getting her sound? Thanks. This site is invaluable. |

Your excellent and timely advice has been incredibly helpful to us in trying our best to care for......Again, many thanks for pointing us in the right directions! By FF, Thursday, January 24, 2002 - Dr. O, THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR ANSWERING SO SPEEDILY.... It is not only the helpful content of your information but how you present it(in this instance going the extra mile to answer before leaving town) that makes this such a nice site to be a member of. It's also what probably makes so many of us feel personally connected, that we have a lifeline out there when the Qs overwhelm. As a former expert witness on customer service you get top marks from a harsh critic. So, please, consider this both a fan letter and a thank you note. |
