I have a nice half bred hunter mare but she is a dreadful follower. She's totally honest and has a fine big jump, but if she has to jump in front of other horses or on her own (eg hunter trials) she will slow up coming into every fence, look at it then jump it out of a standstill. Strangely, she does not do this with showjumps in an arena or paddock.

Any ideas on suitable training? At the moment what I'm doing is forcing her to go around training tracks (2 ft 6 max) on her own to try to break the habit and then going in pairs over novice tracks (3 ft to 3 ft 6) so she will have a lead part of the time and gallop on more.

All the best

Imogen
