Hi Dr O, Just wanted to compliment your trailer loading article. I read and re-read it several times before I went out today with a friend to load my 2 year old who hasn't been in a trailer since she was 6 weeks old. We followed your article pretty much exactly how you explain it and by the end of an hour we were able to load and unload her 6 times in a row - all with no fuss. She stood in there quietly, came out quietly when asked, and was eager to go back in again. The only part we did differently is we let her come right back out the first time she went in. The sound of her hooves on the floor startled her. The 2nd time took a half hour of the 'tapping' part before she would go back in (she does not rear or pull back), but after that she was going in and out like a pro! With both my filly and myself being green 'loaders', I was very happy with the results and glad for the great advice. Lee C

Thanks Lee, I have taken some of the most recalcitrant non-loaders in this area and though once bad habits are learned it takes a bit longer no matter how bad they are by the time we are done they all are great loaders. There may have to be the brief reminder of what this is all about but usually this is a life long lesson. DrO
