Hi,
Here's a tip to eliminate the problem of when you're turning your horse out and he rips away from you as your removing his halter.

I had a horse who was notorious for doing this. As I was unbuckling her halter, she would tear away and run off - very bad manners and usually wrench my arm. Well, after that happened a couple of times I decided to fix it once and for all. The next day I went to turn her out as usual but instead, I put two halters on her, one over the other. On the bottom one though, I had a chain shank over her nose. We walked out to the pasture and when I unbukled the top halter, she went to tear away but when she hit that chain shank and realized she wasn't free, that was one surprised horse! I then unbuckled the bottom halter as she stood quietly.

The next day I did the same thing and this time she started to rip away but thought better of it and stopped and let me remove her halter all the way. I actually had to shoo her off for her to realize she was free.

Problem solved. Never happened again and she turned into a perfectly mannered horse after that one lesson.
