I haven't been very good about keeping my tack really clean + my barn is very dusty. Last night, the spirit moved me to thoroughly clean my saddle. It has those 'bumps' on the leather, and after an hour or so of cleaning with saddle soap, I could not remove them completely (and in some spots, not at all).

Does anyone have any tips for removing these bumps--I assume they are dirt/dust as the sponge keeps getting dirty when I rub them, but the bumps remain! thanks. cynthia

Hello Cynthia,
I am unfamiliar with the the bumps you are seeing. The fact you cannot remove them suggest the leather may have been deteriorated possibly by mold explaining the spotted appearance. Can you post a image of the problem and what you have done to try and treat the problem?

They're sort of lumps of congealed soap etc I think. You're supposed to make up a wisp of horse tail hair or similar to get off these "jockeys" (no, I don't know why they are called that), but I just use my fingernails gently.

All the best

Imogen
