I recently started clicker training my horse and have been having wonderful results. I was wondering if anyone else reading was a fan of it and if you had any tips.

I am having one problem: before learning more about clicker training I did not really use variable reinforcement. Every time he performed the behavior I'd usually click instead of waiting for him to hold the behavior longer and longer. I now have a somewhat confused horse. If he doesn't get clicked when he feels he should he gets frustrated and thinks he's doing the wrong behavior altogethor and either quickly quits or tries something entirely different.

I don't feel I am witholding the click too long... The behavior I'm having the most problems with is picking up and holding his feet up on cue. He will hold them up for a couple seconds, but if I try to go even a second or so longer and withold the click he quickly gives up...entirely. If he picks up his feet at all it is very quickly. Any advice?? How do I let him know that the click not only means he did well, but to continue the behavior until the click comes.

Thanks!
