Has anyone used stirrup swivels for a western saddle? I am thinking about ordering them for my newest saddle because my right ankle and knee really hurt me while riding. I have shortened the stirrup length which did help. When I ride my ankle feels like it is twisted in an awkward position. My english saddle does not do this so that is why I felt the swivel might be a solution for my western saddle. Thanks. |

My friend has them and swears by them...says they are great. Interestingly, she LENGTHENED her stirrups and found that to be much more comfortable (whether using the swivels or not). I am planning on getting them too....my right ankle and knee hurt so bad on a ride last weekend I thought I was going to cry before we were done! |

Have you tried positioning your stirrups then sticking a broom handle thru them to hold them in place while the saddle is not being used. Colleen |

I did use the broom handle in the stirrups while stored and I think it was helping. But I recently went to a storage cabinet so my saddles would stay clean and this new cabinet didn't allow enough room to keep the stirrups turned with the broom handle. This is a great western saddle and I am starting to hate riding in it. I may try the broom handle again and just let this saddle stay out and get dusty. |

Terri, I am glad to hear a good report on the swivels. I think it will be my Plan B if the broom handle doesn't permanently fix the problem. My stirrups were clearly too long because I caught myself stretching with my toes to keep from losing the stirrups. I keep finding myself reaching for the english saddle lately just to avoid the pain! |

I bought some Sprenger stirrups which swivel in 4 directions about a year ago. I find them good: my right ankle used to hurt on long hacks (trail rides), but doesn't with them. I think I had to put my stirrup leathers up one hole, but only because the Sprenger stirrups themselves are "taller". |
