Posted on Thursday, Jan 21, 2010 - 6:39 pm: Hi! We are planning to show several Andalusians in Sport Horse in Hand at a Houston horse show in March. At previous shows we have always held the reins. However, we have seen other people use a split chain attached to the bit rings with a single leather lead in lieu of the reins. From what I read in USEF rules that is legal. Are any of you familiar with this discipline? I am having problems finding the split chain with a single lead at all (I have found two). Both are brown - not black. My dressage bridles are black and I would assume it should match. I did custom order a black one, but it is pricey to custom anything. :-) Do any of you know where I could find several more in black? Experience with brands? Thanks, Judy 0 0 \_/ |

I know Schneider's carries the Arab show halters which use that type of chain and you can buy the chains alone. Don't know if they have black though, but would assume so. |

I ordered a brown one for practice use from SmartPak which was quite a bit more reasonable than other brown ones I found. Will follow up with your suggestions. If we can find a reasonable supplier of these in black (other than the custom one we ordered), we wouldn't have to be changing out lines between classes. The problem is that we will have horses in one class right after the other. This is a dressage class. That sort of mandates black re: bridle doesn't it? I am still learning! But then I suppose learning never stops! :-)Blessings, Judy |

You mostly see them on younger horses and the bridles with reins on older ones. No, not Dovers. There is a catalog I get (for some reason) that is just for dressage riders. If I think of the name I'll post it. |

That said, I agree that you want all of your equipment to match for the best impression in the ring. And I am assuming your Andalusians are gray or graying out and think that black would look best on such coloring.Good luck and let us know how things go. Would love to see pix from the show. |

I did call Dressage Extensions and, though they didn't have jumper leads in black, had a similar idea to Erika's: They are sending me a couple of bottles of Fieblings Leather Dye in black. Says it won't rub off once dry. The lady there also said shoe polish could be used in a pinch! Either are much more reasonable alternatives than having them customed in black. I have the time to dye the brown one and work with it prior to the show. Hopefully that will do the trick!Again, your comments and suggestions got me thinking outside the "box"! You are all appreciated! Will send a pix after the show! Wish us luck! Blessings, Judy 0 0 \_/ |
