Hi. My trusty 22-year-old mule mare Jasmine needs a new job. She's been a good trail horse, but I've got another that's somewhat taken her place and I'd like Jasmine to do what she's really good at: gaming. My concern is her age. Her body is in great shape, that is, no teeth, leg or weight issues. Please know that I'm a complete amateur and that I'm only interested in doing local shows. Thoughts anyone?

I forgot to add that Jasmine has never been formally trained to do games. She's just quick, athletic, and maintains a level head. There's no question that her horse half is some line of quality Quarter horse.

Hmmm.. my first reaction was she is really too old to begin such a endeavor if you are very competitive. However if you go slow and watch those legs carefully for signs of not standing up to the work and Jasmine very healthy and willing, why not?

WSCA rules do not allow mules to compete in their sponsored shows, so I am limited to three mule shows locally. I'm more interested in a new job for Jasmine than winning ribbons, and at least this way she will get more exercise. Appreciate the "green light." I will take care not to stress her, as she is a special girl to me.
