I have recently purchased a four year old Arabian filly and am not sure how much stress she can take in terms of conditioning at this young age. I work with a trainer and school her approximately 3x a week; two times a week I do trail and have gradually built up the time spent on trotting. Trail rides are anywhere from one to two hours and as it is fall, the ground is harder than I would like for working on. Any suggestions or advice?
Thanks, Janet

Hi Janet,

with my 4 year-old QH, I am riding approx 3-4 times per week for a maximum of 40 minutes. A lot of time is spent at walk and trot with short spurts of canter. The trot is very good for working on symetrical muscle development and balance.

My horse is in excellent condition and this schedule works well for both of us.

Teresa
