Hi, my first post here :-).

I've found an absolutely gorgeous filly who has the makings of a terrific hunter one day. 1/2 hanoverian, 1/4 percheron, 1/4 TB, just a beautiful little girl with great parents and picture perfect confirmation.

She was part of a research/training program at a very good state school with an excellent equine program and she's going up for auction in a few weeks.

While looking through the info on the foals it mentions she at one point developed epiphysitis but a change in feed and it fully resolved itself.

Now, of course I'm going to check her out fully, but I was wondering if anyone here knows if that could have an impact on her ability to jump later down the road, even if it's fully resolved itself? From the little information I have at the moment it doesn't appear it was a severe case, though I have an e-mail out right now to the head of the program for more information. I also have an appointment to check out all the horses previous to the auction.

This is the youngest horse I'll have ever owned, my two other horses I got at 2 and 5 and they were past the stage where epiphysitis is a worry so I know very little about it.

She has a half-brother going to auction as well and he's my back up if that would be the safer bet.

Welcome Celeste,
We have an article on epiphysitis that should answer your questions or at least provide you with enough background so you will know how to view this horse before purchase, see Equine Diseases » Lameness » Joint & Bone Diseases » Epiphysitis, Physitis, and Physeal Dysplasia.
