I'm going to a show this weekend and decided to use those clean/condition wipes to spiff up my close contact saddle. That they were made by Armorall should have been a clue. Anyway, I was sliding all over the place today. Any ideas on how to lose the slick seat? |

LOLOL.. at least you tried it out before the show.. I had done the same thing but did not sit on the saddle to the day of.. oh my .. i was slipping all over the place.. i could not keep my seat in the saddle to save my life.. we tried pouring water on the saddle and on my breeches.. that worked some.. Do you have Saddle Tight ? or some kind of Saddle stick. ? There are some products out there that are roll on.. i NOW carry it in my trailer, when i ride the young horses i roll it along the inside of my boots.. It really helps.. Have fun.. On the first day God created horses , on the second day he painted them with spots.. |

Martha, Oh my, good thing you tried it out. What about washing it off with glycerine soap and water, then trying the sticky tack? I know, I know, you used wipes in the first place to save time. Good luck. |

I'll go by the tack store tomorrow for some cleaning supplies and sticky stuff. I usually show in dressage (just lower level, no DQ here) in full seat breeches and a deep seat saddle. My paint needs lots of show experience so I thought I would try a hunter under saddle class (my first)this weekend at an all breeds show. So now I'm in knee patch breeches, slick seat and short stirrups. Good thing I've been practicing... |

I'll testify to the usefulness of the Saddle Tight and products like them. They work great, but I will give you one caution: make sure your breeches are tight if you decide to use this stuff on the seat. I bought some for the first time in January as I had a brand new saddle which was slippery. Used the sticky stuff and it kept the seat of the breeches in the saddle...the problem was, as I posted, my rear came off the saddle, the breeches stayed in the saddle for an extra moment and then released with a most embarrassing sound ...you may not want that at your show!! Try oiling your saddle as well. That usually helps a lot. Good luck at your show! |

Clean off the armorall with glycerin soap and then condition with Lexol. I also like the sticky stuff. Be aware that the roll on sticky seat stuff can squeek when you post. It scared my horse the first time she heard it. Ella |

Debbie, sorry 'bout the spilled coffee!!! I'm glad Ella only experienced a "squeaking" sound, but she's right, regardless of exactly what sound you make, it might disturb your horse. When I used the sticky stuff and started, ummm, squeaking, my mare's ears were working overtime trying to figure out what the heck the noise was. I suppose she knew that it wasn't coming from her... |

A secret of pageant queens to keep their bathing suits down--"Spray Mount". It turns the back of paper sticky like a post-it note. Doesn't stay stuck but will adhere. I've sprayed the back and insides of my riding breeches with it before a particularly challenging ride and it works like magic. Washes out in the laundry. Oh, and vaseline on the teeth for a nice smile--haha! |

So if anyone cares to know how it ended, I bought some Passier saddle soap and saddle balm and went to work. I was hesitant to use the oil in case it made things slippery again but I trusted in the woman at the tack store. After two cleanings the saddle was slick but manageable. I also bought some Saddle Tight but was glad I skipped using it. V-Rod and I were chillin' in the warm up arena, awaiting our class, when the horse+buggy combinations started coming in. The sight of them sent him into a spinning and bucking fit so I chose to bail off the side. I led him into the staging area of the indoor arena and heard them calling my class. I mounted up and he did it again. I bailed off again and fell on my rear. The ring steward caught him and I took a deep breath, climbed on and entered the arena. All the excitement had him "up" and he performed beautifully, remaining (mostly) on the bit: my trainer says that we were the only combo to actually achieve an extended trot. Too bad it was an equitation class. My mind was focused on breathing and trying to calm down, not the position of my hands and legs. Anyway, I was thrilled that he was overall very good, as this was his first big show and there was lots of activity. The best part was my trainer saying that she had wished that everyone watching the equitation class knew that that was her student. AWW... |

Martha, first of all, thanks for the heads up on those saddle wipes. Guess I'll 'stick' to my old-fashioned way of cleaning/conditioning my saddle. Glad to hear you were able to overcome V-Rod's silliness in the warm-up arena and complete your class. I agree with Ilona--you get a blue ribbon for tenacity! D. |

Martha, Ditto to what everyone else said. You had the courage to hop back on after two spills and get into the arena (with people watching!!!). Kudos to you - you overcame the fear and rode through it. No matter where you placed in the class...you and your horse came out winners! Congrats! |

Do you have a photo editing program of some kind? Like "Paint" or "Adobe Photo Shop?" |
