I don't know if anyone has this problem, but we live on 80 acres that we'd like to trail ride on. Half of the property is woods and half grassy hills. The woods are easy enough to handle, but keeping the grass down on the hills is a challenge. By summer's end, the grass is taller than me, and I'm 5 feet 6 inches tall. We recently bought an ATV. We tried dragging a heavy chunk of metal behind the ATV to mash down the grass, but the grass is hardy and pops back up in a few days. The ATV mower attachments are good only on 15% grades, and ours slope steeper than that. I've considered vegetation killer like Roundup, but we've got wildlife and barn cats around and I don't want to kill them. Has anyone had any luck with this problem?

My husband cuts the grassy hills that I ride with the tractor & bushhog. He will cut it 2x a year and that seems to be enough. He waits for a dry time because several of the hills are steep.

Ha!..I only wish I had such a problem as too tall grass!! We have to water like crazy to get our fields to grow, and every where else it's sage brush.

Ann, we may have to go the bushhog route. We don't own a big enough tractor, but a friend mounts hers on a Bobcat--something I'm trying to talk my husband into buying. He'd like one himself, and is willing to sell a few unused "toys" around the farm to come up with the funds.

I am confused, why would a drag-behind mower not work on these hills if you are riding the ATV on them anyway?

I'm only going according to information on the manufacturers' Web sites, Dr. O.
