I discovered this book through some internet link I found somewhere--who knows? After riding for over twenty years and countless hours of expensive instruction, longe lessons, clinics, a bookcase full of reference works, yadda yadda, this simple little book has make an enormous difference in my riding. Granted, I am a stiff middle aged lady with a lazy horse, but the exercises herein (especially the ones on unlocking your back) are nothing short of a miracle. I originally ordered it as a reference tool for my daughter, who is teaching introductory riding at a day camp this summer, but always curious I decided to try it out first. The book is called Secure Seat: The Art of Staying on Your Horse and Learning Feel, by Jan Dawson. You can order it at http://home.centurytel.net/jan_dawson/AAHS/products.htm. Scroll down to the second entry. It's just a little 58 page manual, but so far, for me, it's worth its weight in gold.

Dr. O, I hope it's okay for me to post this here. If not, feel free to delete and I'd be happy to email anyone the ordering details.

Nena, try going to my post at Member's Services members_only » Product Reviews » Books, Videos, and Information Resources »
Discussion on Secure Seat: The Art of Staying on Your Horse and Learning Feel . Click on the link in that post. If that still doesn't work, you can email the author, Jan Dawson, at Jzdawson@aol.com. I wrote to thank her for the book and she was very accessible. I'm sure she'd be happy to tell you where to get a copy.

If you Google Jan Dawson, it is listed first and you can order a number of her books, etc. She is quite an interesting person. Leilani

Nena,

How long did it take to get your book? I ordered a copy on June 26th, and have not received it yet. I ordered from her site and it posted on my CC thru Pay Pal.

Really wishing it would get here!!!

Angie,
I had trouble with the website so I contacted them directly. You may want to follow up by calling AAHS's toll free number: 1-866-485-6800. Apparently, they just moved their office. That could be part of the delay. Hope this helps.

Thanks Dove2, I called that number and they are checking into it. The lady I spoke with figured the order got lost during the move. She said she'd put the book in the mail for me pronto.

Good thing you had an updated number, the one on the website didn't get answered.

Thanks again!

Gals, wishing that book would show up. Too hot to ride, be great to study it sitting in front of the fan!!

Any advice in there on posting?? I know I am horrible at it, (o.k., sometimes I do alright,--I think) but hoping for a little bit on that in this little book.

And yes, I've been reading the section on here that discussed it.

Hi Catherine,
I am in the same boat. Ordered on same day, charge has already gone through on my credit card and still no book.
I tried to call them, nobody answered. I sent an email over a week ago and no answer.

Are you calling the number Dove2 posted above? I had to call twice and leave a message. Both times she returned my call. (I forget the ladies name) She was very pleasant to deal with but it wasn't until the second call that I actually got the book.

It is her name on the caller ID, not the organization so she may have returned your call and you missed it.

She said they had lost some of the orders, computer trouble apparently. She gave me the number and name of the guy who was trying to straighten out the technical/orders/billing part of the mess.

I have no doubt they will get the book to both of you, just keep your CC for reference and keep trying to contact them.

Good luck.

And btw, it is a fantastic little book. I find the exercises and tips are great....now if it would ever A) get cooler and B) the thunderstorms stop, maybe I can get back to riding and work on the skills!!

I am in the US also.

Catherine, in my post above I mentioned I ordered and have received the book. I live in northern BC which is in Canada.
I would keep trying to get hold of someone.

It is a great book.

Toll free number doesn't work from Canada. However 512.488.2220 does. I spoke to a very nice (and very apologetic)lady who asked that I send the details of the order to jzdawson@aol.com, and they would take it from there.

This is the address I ordered my book from.
www.horsemanshipsafety.com

If you are stumped perhaps you could try emailing Jan Dawson, she is sthe author of the book.

I couldn't find where to order the book so I emailed her and the above is the address she gave me.
Good luck

I found my paper work.

The number I called was 1-866-485-6800
Spoke to Brenda Hendricks.

The second number she gave me was
1-563-539-4746.

This is for Jeff, who handles the PayPal and orders part. He may be of some help to those of you waiting yet.

I also called PayPal because the dollar amount I was charged was $2 higher than the website said it would be when I ordered. Unfortunately, I could not discuss it as PayPal is in my husbands name I guess. Which I thought was pretty stupid as he never takes care of any of this stuff.....but if you call them, keep that in mind and make sure the person calling is the person who set up the account. I wonder if you shouldn't call them, cancel the charge as merchandise not received, and re-order?

I also ordered on Sunday, June 26th from the www.horsemanshipsafety.com site. Still have not received my books (ordered two).

I just spoke to Brenda Hendrix for the 1st time after leaving 2 prior voice mail messages (over a week ago). There IS a huge mixup with the organization's move. She has promised the books will be placed in tomorrow's mail. She must be getting bombarded with inquiries from tons of people. Very helpful, and friendly woman.

I had the same experience with PayPal on the dollar amount. I will call Jeff in the morning!

I will post when I receive my books!

I ordered my copy Monday, July 31. Spoke to Brenda and sent my letter to her new address in Estes Park. I did not want to deal with PayPal, so I sent a personal check. She promised to put the book in the mail as soon as she received my check. She was very nice and returned my calls when I left messages on the toll-free number.
I think the problem is that the headquarters are still in Texas, but she is working out of Estes Park in Colorado.

I have phoned and left messages on Jeffs phone (the time difference has me baffled) and I have sent faxes but still no reply and no book! I am not sure what to do next.
Thanks Catherine
