My 4-year-old gelding has, at a rather late age, gone into training and is learning to lunge. He is fine going to the right. Going left, he will, in one of two places in the ring, turn his head too far to the inside, swing, of course, his hind end to the outside, slide neatly behind the trainer's right side, then stop or toss his head.

He's on his 8th lesson now, and I would say the circles are about 20'; that is, when they're circles.

Any ideas on how to correct this? I feel the trainer is anticipating his movement well, but the pattern is a stubborn one. He will walk well to the left if someone walks with a line next to him with the line extended maybe 7 feet. There are no physical problems.
