Tacking and Mounting Problem
Posted by Mary-Ann
I have a 10 year old QH gelding who has
had a bad scare. Before I bought him he had been badly
ridden and handled. He was cinched real tight, worked real
hard, and misunderstood. A mounting problem developed and it
escalated to the point that the owner pulled so hard on his
mouth to keep him still to mount that he flipped over
backwards and landed on the saddle. Now I own him and he is
coming along good with the cinch and the fear of the saddle,
but I am unable to mount because he keeps turning his body
away so he faces me. He backs up quickly if I get anywhere
near the stirrup. I have only owned him a week, but would
like some direction on how to overcome this problem
properly.
thanks. Mary-Ann
