The turn on the forehand is the first of the lateral movements to
teach to a horse. It is valuable, whether you are working at getting the best gait possible from your Tennessee Walking Horse or beginning serious training for ANY discipline that ANY horse may perform.

This is a movement in which there is little forward motion or
impulsion. It is used to create a more supple, more responsive horse. In the turn on the forehand, the horse moves his hind legs in a ircle around himself, while the front legs stay as stationary as possible. You will find the movement to be a good exercise for the horse, and the rider. You will also find it useful on the trail, especially when opening gates.
