I've had my mare out on the road many times. She's only been under saddle since June this year. Sometimes she does very well and other times when a car/truck, usually a loud one, comes up behind her she panics and wants to turn into the road or around toward the vehicle. Do I just keep exposing her to traffic or is there something I need to be doing? She doesn't typically spook when she encounters other objects.

Are you able to go out with a calm, older horse who's traffic-proof? Put the older horse on the outside, next to the passing traffic, and hopefully yours will gain courage when she sees that her companioin is not at all concerned.
