Does anyone know of any books that deal specifically with running a horse facility. I remember a few years ago seeing just such a book that provided templates for boarding contracts, lesson contracts, waivers, etc., but I can't remember the title.

The one you probably remember is Starting and Running Your Own Horse Business by Mary AShby McDonald, published by Storey Communications, c. 1997, $19.95. Or it might be Business Planner and Bookkeeper for the Horse Enterprise by Sue Ellen Marder, Julia M. Flint and Leslie A. Winter, published by Breakthrough Press, c. 1996, no price on my copy. There are also a couple of books of equine legal forms out there and books with general legal info. I wouldn't recommend using any of these templates in any of these books, especially for liability waivers, unless you first run language that you want to use by a lawyer in your state who is experienced in dealing with equine issues and cases. For general advice on starting and running a horse business the best one by far, best because its advice is particular, organized and has illuminating examples and many useful resources (usually free) and how to reach them is Lisa Derby Oden's Growing Your Horse Business, c. 2000, it is self-published by Blue Ribbon Consulting, 273 Poor Farm Road, New Ipswich, NH 03071,603-878-1694, www.horseconsulting.com. It costs $25 + S&H. Oden has a second book out on marketing called Bang for Your Buck: Making Sense of Marketing For Your Horse Business. I haven't read it so can't comment on it. Good luck in finding and using the information you need.
