Need help!
My family is taking over an existing stable with approx. 60 horses in Ca. In re-writing the boarding agreement, I was wondering if it would be prudent to have all horses tested for equine infectious anemia, and all vaccinations/wormings updated if not on current record. I don't know what kind of records the current manager has, but I want to insure a clean facility. Any suggestions? Does anyone know if the coggins test is required or needed in Ca.

Not knowing the incidence of EIA in your area this would be a question for your veterinarian, but if you have horseflies I suspect EIA is a possiblitiy. Concerning vaccines this too depends on many local factors but to help you make up your mind with the facts about the diseases and vaccines see, Care for Horses » Vaccines & Coggin's Test. Very mportant as barn manager is for you to be sure the horses are not exposed to parasites, for more see Care for Horses » Deworming and Parasite Control.
