I have a horse that I have given away to a good home and all I ask of the new owner is the horse not be sold and if she were to have to get rid of him he would come back to me. I am looking for a good contract to protect both of us but I am not sure where to find one or even what kind of contract it would go under. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks, Kerry |

We do not have such a sales contract and though I am not a lawyer I would think once you relinquish ownership further stipulations are a bit of a legal cornundrum (sp?). We do have a lease form that you may be able to modify to your use. Ms Fershtman certainly would be a good resource for this. DrO |

Hello, I just placed an older horse in a great home for "free" (bill of sale was for $1) but used the sales contract to protect myself and the horse. Use a standard sales contract with a right of first refusal to buy the horse back at the same price you "sold" him. That worked for me. The contract I used is stored on a different computer than the one I am on now, but if you would like a copy let me know and I will find it and email it to you. |

I recently went through the same thing and ended up using an adoption contract. If you look at some of the rescue organizations, they have good contracts. I did not use one of the rescue organization's - I'm sure there are copyright issues, but had an attorney draw up a contract with many of the same points listed. |
