We had a late filly this year, and there were no foal blankets to be found in the tack stores, so we headed to the local thrift shop. We purchased a long fleece vest. By cutting the vest from the arm hole toward the zipper we made the vest the right shape, and an opening large enough for "Gracie" to get her leg through. Once you do up the zipper you have a good fit, we tightened up any loose spots with two holes and a bit of baler twine. We are using a pair of suspenders to keep the vest from moving forward. "Gracie" looks great, and has been very warm during this cold snap. I am not sure what modifications you would have to make for a colt, but neccesity is the mother of invetion.
